Happy birthday to the man that has shown me nothing but love, encouragement, joy, and support in the past year. I am continually amazed by how blessed I am by you. I love you, Trev!

Already counting down the days (5) until I get to spend the weekend at my place of refuge (AKA my grandparents’ cabin). Nothing but peace, quiet, lake, fresh air, hammock, painting, reading, and relaxation.

Today is this little girl’s ninth birthday. Words cannot even express how much I love and miss her. Mixed feelings galore. I’m so proud and beyond blessed to be your big sister, Lilly! You’re quite the amazing girl.

In going through some of my old things today, I came across this lovely letter from my dear friend Ira. I had known Ira from when I was about two years old. He was the social worker at the school my grandma has taught at for the past 15+ years. When I was a kid, I would look forward to visiting my grandma at school knowing that I’d get to visit Ira as well. We’d play games, and he always gave Tommy and I foreign coins. As I got older, Ira and I were able to build a friendship as two adults. He always encouraged me to continue with my painting, photography, music, and writing. We would sit and talk for hours about our favorite musicians, his travels across the world throughout his lifetime, while we sipped on tea. About a year and a half ago, in casual emails, Ira wrote to me saying he was in pain, thinking he had a stomach bug. I suggested he go to the doctor, and that you could never be too careful. Two days later, I got the news that Ira was diagnosed with cancer. Unfortunately, it spread very quickly and a few short months later, Ira passed. We had exchanged a few emails in the months he was in the hospital, and he was always the same encouraging, cheerful, funny guy through it all. Never will I forget this man and the impact he had on me through his love, encouragement, and wisdom. What a legacy he left. RIP, Ira.
